MK Czerweic

MK’s most recent visit was to have been April 1, 2020, just weeks into the pandemic shutdown. Instead, MK and I filmed a Zoom conversation that was provided asynchronously to all students in DEARTS. Given a lack of meaningful understanding about the Covid-19 pandemic, and the fact that most undergraduates know little about the HIV/AIDS crisis, MK and I decided to center our conversation on the similarities between the two pandemics. There is no substitute for students being able to engage and question guest artists in person. However, by editing into our recorded interview, images of MK’s work, as well as news photographs and video clips, I was able to do justice to MK Czerweic’s depth of talents and knowledge, much of which she gained when she was a young nurse in Chicago nurse during the height of the HIV/AIDS crisis. The interview we recorded can be viewed here on YouTube.
