Solomon Presents!

Speaking at the Mayo Clinic Humanities in Medicine Symposium, 2018

RECENT PRESENTATIONS:

The Legacy of Robert Colescott’s Manhood

My essay in the Unmasking Masculinity for the 21st Century exhibition catalog, published January 2023

“Robert Colescott’s paintings sing with the discord and gratification he found in his search for identity. His love for and attachment to women and his strident depictions of sexuality broadcast his pride as a man of those times. Colescott is fearless in his determination to articulate his carnal self.”

Masked Up: Robert Colescott and Me

Robert Colescott’s paintings, made decades ago, are luscious, provocative, complex, and still discomfiting. In this presentation, I discuss why Colescott’s work resonates deep within me. The talk was held during the Unmasking Masculinity for the 21st Century exhibition at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts.
