Live in the Hive!

This project was especially gratifying because although the Live in the Hive! concept was mine, widespread enthusiasm for the project made it possible to assemble a highly participatory team to experiment with ideas, creatively solve problems, recruit additional participants and backers, and pull off a complex event.

Live in the Hive! culminated on a Saturday night. As action heated up in bars and on the sidewalks near The Ohio State University campus, ‘worker-bee’ photographers and videographers collected digital ‘pollen,’ and ‘flew’ on roller blades to the hive we created on campus. Polaroid slides were processed at the hive. These slides, as well as VHS video tapes were projected in the center of the hive, while the ‘queen bee’ mistress of ceremonies interviewed the worker bees.

The Columbus Dispatch newspaper donated enormous rolls of newsprint paper, Polaroid Corporation provided Polaroid slide film and processing equipment. Local apiaries provided beeswax. Local hair salons offered discounted ‘beehive’ hair styling.
